CMA's Final Report: What It Means for Pet Owners — and Why CompareTheVet247.com Was Built for This Moment
Published: March 24th 2026
Today marks a major milestone for pet owners across the UK. The Competition & Markets Authority (CMA) has released its long‑awaited Final Report on Veterinary Services, confirming what many pet owners have felt for years: prices have been unclear, information has been inconsistent, and choosing a vet has been far harder than it should be.
At CompareTheVet247.com, our mission has always been simple:
Help pet owners make informed, confident decisions through unbiased, transparent comparison.
The CMA's findings and remedies now make that mission even more important — and more possible — than ever.
CMA Confirms the Need for Transparent Comparison
The CMA is clear: pet owners have been operating in the dark for too long. They state:
"Pet owners do not have the tools they need to support them in choosing what is best for them and their pet."
And crucially:
"This information will be collated on a comparison website… and the data will become available to approved third parties who would like to provide comparison services to pet owners."
Smart Data: A New Era of Transparency
The report goes further, recommending that the government introduce a Smart Data Scheme for veterinary services:
"We recommend that government establishes a smart data scheme to place Find a Vet, and other price comparison tools, on a statutory footing."
Mandatory Price Lists: A Win for Pet Owners
The CMA is now requiring all veterinary practices to publish comprehensive, standardised price lists that cover consultations, OOH care, vaccinations, dentistry, surgeries, diagnostics, and more.
"This will make it much easier for pet owners to choose a vet practice that meets their needs by requiring veterinary businesses to provide… prices for a standard list of services."
Ownership Transparency
The CMA found that many pet owners don't know whether their practice is independent or part of a large corporate group:
"Less than half of respondents were aware that their practice was part of an LVG."
"All FOPs will be required to make it clear who owns, controls or has a high level of influence over the business concerned."
Our Commitment to Data Protection & Privacy
We are fully ICO‑registered.
We operate under a strict Data Protection Policy.
We never sell user data or allow commercial influence over rankings.
Applying to Become an RCVS‑Approved Smart Data Vendor
CompareTheVet247.com will be applying to the RCVS for API access as an accredited third‑party comparison provider, allowing us to integrate standardised pricing and ownership data.
What This Means for Pet Owners
"For the first time, pet owners will be empowered to choose the right vet, the right treatment, and the right way to purchase medicine — without confusion or unnecessary cost."
The Future of Vet Care Is Transparent — and It Starts Now
CompareTheVet247.com is proud to be at the forefront of this new era — one powered by transparency, Smart Data, and genuine consumer empowerment.
